ROSSync from Odyssey Computing provides
a means for enterprises to synchronize data between Microsoft
Exchange and Windows
Mobile & Embedded Devices (Pocket PC, Handheld PC
and Windows CE.net). This can be achieved wirelessly
or through a landline as long as an Internet/Intranet
connection can be established. ROSSync uses Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL), the standard of security on the Internet.
SSL is a technology that allows you to communicate to
your server via a secure, encrypted link, thus preserving
the data's integrity and confidentiality
Requiring only a minimal effort to configure, this revolutionary
application provides enterprises with a robust solution
that results in increased productivity.
Note:
Why use it?
- It is a truly unique and secure synchronization
solution that fosters a truly mobile work environment
with or without wires. Other solutions limit the type
and number of folders that can be synchronized; the
types of devices supported or require that the desktop
PC of
the user be accessible.
- It is a complete solution that does not put a limitation
on the type of folders that can be downloaded from
Microsoft Exchange. Public folders and multiple personal mailboxes
can be synchronized. Multiple folders of the same type
(i.e. Contact, Calendar, etc.) can be synchronized.
- Mobile users can access and update their data anytime,
anywhere.
- Managers/Supervisors can keep track of their territorial
information by accessing Public Folders and shared
folders.
-
ROSSync allows you to retrieve email addresses from the
Global Address List (GAL) stored in Microsoft Exchange
Server while composing emails in Pocket On-Schedule.
You can search the GAL using all or part of the individual’s
name and email.
Who should use it?
- Enterprises looking to deploy a wireless
or remote contact management solution
-
Mobile workers needing to access and update their
information or manage their e-mail while on the road.
-
Sales managers who need to keep track of their sales
force by synchronizing Public Folders and shared folders.
What does it do?
- ROSSync provides a means for workers within
an enterprise to synchronize their Microsoft Exchange
folders to their Windows Mobile & Embedded Devices
(Pocket PC, Handheld PC and Windows CE.net). This
can be achieved wirelessly or through a landline as
long as an Internet/Intranet connection can be established.
-
Can synchronize multiple calendars, contact lists,
task lists, journal, notes, and e-mail folders.
-
Can synchronize multiple public or personal folders.
-
Can set filters to specify which items to synchronize.
For example, can specify to synchronize only the contacts
from the state of New York.
-
Provides options for resolving conflicts at the field
level. A conflict happens when the same data field
has been modified on both the server and the mobile
device. There is no conflict if changes are made to
different fields within the same item. There is an
option in ROSSync to handle data conflicts automatically
or prompt for an action every time there is a conflict.
-
Attachments can be downloaded piece-meal. When an
email has attachments that exceed the user’s
settings, only the name, date, and size information
for each attachment is downloaded. User can then view
the list of attachments and decide which one to download.
How does it work?
ROSSync creates a connection between the Exchange Server
and the Mobile Device. This is possible as long as the Mobile Device
connects to the internet either wirelessly or through a telephone line.
Before synchronizing, ROSSync checks for changes made to the folders
selected for synchronization on both the server and the mobile and
synchronize the changes bi-directionally.
System Requirements
- On the Server: Microsoft Exchange 5.5/2000/2003,
Microsoft Internet Information Services, Microsoft
SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express Edition
(Formerly known as MSDE), Secure Socket Layer (SSL)
Certificate.
-
On the Mobile Device: Pocket On-Schedule v6
Supported Devices
Windows Mobile 2003 and higher, Pocket PC 2002/2003,
Windows CE .NET, Handheld PC.

Error Resolution
ROSSync provides several options for resolving error resolution.
Error Resolution occurs when you are trying to sync up changes made
to a Public Folder that has “Read-Only” permissions. You
will get an error for that item because you don’t have the necessary
Permissions for it. In the case of any Error Resolution, you have the
following options:
- Undo the device change

- Retry the device change during the next sync

- Skip the change and take no action
